Workshop

Magical Landscape

Take pictures that are truly yours –
with your phone.

This workshop is a soft landing from the daily rush into the slowed–down world of nature.

During a walk, with your phone in hand, you will attentively  create on the spot.

No complex techniques or rigid rules beforehand, but a creative process of doing, discovering, and refining.

While learning to see through your aesthetic senses, you will get the most out of your phone.

What To Expect?

See Differently

1

I will show you how you can see a landscape as a backdrop.

Through the magic of photography, we will reveal worlds that you might not have seen before.

A familiar stretch of woods in a park might then suddenly transform into a mysterious wilderness.

Technique

2

Discover the interplay between space, framing, camera angles, shapes, colors, and light.

Vary the compositions so you can choose a photo that appeals to you in a later stage.

Consciously compose your photo with foreground, subject, and background.

Playful With All

Circumstances

3

You don't need to wait for the golden hour for a beautiful photo.

Whether it is sunny, foggy, twilight, cloudy, or drizzling: every type of weather has its own atmosphere that we learn to capture.

We also embrace little surprises that you couldn't have thought of beforehand.

Flow

4

Does cropping make the photo feel exciting, tense, or does it actually create a sense of openness?

Is the image balanced, or does it clash somewhere?

Does that support the atmosphere you feel, or is it not right?

Editing

5

At the end, you choose a number of photos that you edit on your phone.

Play with color correction, contrasts, and more.

I'll show you how to do that like a real photographer.

A Photo That Is Truly Yours

6

Because each step of the creative process is in your hands, the photos breathe your own aesthetic.

For Whom?

For anyone who wants to learn how to take better photos and photograph with more attention. We focus on seeing and creating, not on the use of advanced cameras. Where necessary, I will help you on the spot with the phone you have with you.

About Me

Iztok Klančar – Iztokk

Filmmaker, photographer and teacher

A connection with nature was planted in me from a young age. I grew up in the beautiful Slovenian Pre-Alps. For me, a silent walk in the woods was just as easy as opening the front door and heading out with the dog. In this area, I also discovered remnants of our history: old farmhouses, mills, and even abandoned coalmines.

My connection to the elements is clearly visible in my artistic work. I usually place queer performers in landscapes. The light, the colors, the wind, or even the stillness reflect the idea behind their alter egos, their and my emotional state, and thereby also that of our world.

I have over 10 years of experience teaching at the Dutch higher professional education level. I started my career at HKU Fashion Design in Utrecht and later continued at the KABK in The Hague (Bachelor of Photography), where I still teach.

I approach eager students as autonomous individuals who want to build a strong foundation within the medium of film and photography. In doing so, I enjoy helping them develop their intrinsically driven stories into powerful visual works.

This workshop is an extension of that. I will show you how to develop your own vision through a structured process of standing still – observing – creating – reflecting. You can do this simply with your own phone!

I live with my partner in Haarlem, close to beautiful canals, rivers and lakes, the dunes, and the sea.
